These are indeed exciting times for popular Yoruba actor, Odunlade Adekola, Hausa movie star, Jamila Umar Nagudu and movie producer and actor, Kunle Afolayan as they were recently signed as Glabacom ambassador.

they will reign for an initial period of two years with an option for renewal of contract.

However, the reverse appears to be the case for Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke and screen diva, Kate Henshaw as they were both dropped from the list of ambassadors expected to fly the Glo brand for an undisclosed duration.

Iyke and Henshaw were said to have ceased being beneficiaries to a deal that saw them earning N20 million per year.

Kunle Afolayan, is known for his work, The Figurine. He began his career as a banker, while playing minor roles before moving full time into movie making. He is the director of the award winning movies, the Figurine and Irapada.

A graduate of the New York Film Academy, Afolayan is highly recognized and respected in the Nigerian film industry. He is the son of late actor-producer Ade Love. His first movie was done in 1998 when he featured in Tunde Kelani’s film titled ‘Saworoide’.

Odunlade started acting 15 years ago and he has appeared in over 100 movies, 10 of which he personally produced in the Yoruba genre. He has won several awards including “Best Yoruba Actor’s Award”.

Jamila Umar Nagudu on her part is the Queen of Kannywood, meaning she is the most outstanding female actor on the Hausa film turf which has its headquarters in Kano, northern Nigeria. Highly respected by the Hausa speaking community, she has won seven industry awards and has featured in several films.

Globacom’s Regional director, Marketing Communications, Mr Charles Jenarius said that the choice of the three new ambassadors was based on their professional track records and the decorum with which they have managed their personal lives off stage.

Currently, Globacom parades 14 and 6 stars from the film and music industries respectively with one coming from the comedy genre of entertainment. the ambassadors cut across all the major cultural zones of the country.

From the movie industry Glo has Ini Edo, Rita Dominic, Monalisa Chinda, Uche Jumbo, Chioma Chukwuka Akphota, Nonso Diobi, Ramsey Noah, Desmond Elliot, Ali Nuhu, Mike Ezuruonye, Funke Akindele, and now Kunle Afolayan, Odunlade Adekola and Jamila Umar Nagudu.

The seven Musicians/comedians are Basket mouth, Sammy Okposo, Ego Ogbaro, Pasuma Wonder, Ekwe Stereoman, Yakubu Mohammed and Sani Danja.

It was also revealed that the contracts of actors Jim Iyke and Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, which recently expired, would not be renewed and Globacom had thanked them for their services and contributions to the Glo brand, saying that they are still some of the best of Nollywood.
